Psychiatric Care That Looks at the Whole Person
Joelle Rotman, PMHNP-BC provides psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and psychotherapy for adolescents and adults in New York — with care shaped around the individual rather than simply a diagnosis.
Psychiatric Evaluation
Sometimes it can be difficult to know what will help — or even what the core issues affecting your mental health are. Joelle performs detailed psychiatric evaluations and provides comprehensive recommendations for improving mental health.
Many patients continue treatment with Joelle after the evaluation. She may also provide a one-time psychiatric evaluation to help clarify treatment options.
An evaluation may involve:
- Relevant mental health history
- Medication management
- Psychotherapy
- Personalized recommendations
Patients often come to medication management when they are:
- Considering psychiatric medication for the first time
- Already taking medication and seeking ongoing management
- Questioning whether your current medication is still serving you
- Wanting your medication considered within the larger context of your mental health
Whether a medication is started, adjusted, continued, or reduced is always based on individual clinical evaluation — never assumed in advance.
Medication Management
Medication management is about determining which symptoms may be appropriately targeted with medication — and considering which medication may offer meaningful relief while minimizing unwanted side effects.
Joelle's approach is thoughtful and collaborative rather than medication-first. Your concerns, questions, and preferences are part of every decision.
Psychotherapy
Therapy provides an opportunity to explore the underlying causes of difficult emotions, patterns, relationships, and experiences — rather than focusing only on symptom management.
Her work may incorporate approaches such as Internal Family Systems (IFS) — a way of exploring emotions, relationships, and the different parts of your inner experience, at a pace that feels safe. The approach is always shaped to you.
Joelle's psychotherapy approach is:
- Individualized
- Collaborative
- Compassionate
- Non-judgmental
- Interested in understanding the person behind the symptoms
