About Joelle
Meet Joelle Rotman, PMHNP-BC
A board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and psychotherapist providing medication management and psychotherapy to adolescents and adults — virtually, throughout New York.

Medication and Psychotherapy: Combined Approach
Joelle is both a psychiatric prescriber and a trained psychotherapist, and she draws on both throughout every appointment. Medication can be a valuable tool — and she'll tell you honestly when she thinks it is. She'll also tell you when she thinks something else might serve you better: a shift in how you're relating to your own experience, a change in how you're sleeping or moving, a deeper look at what's driving the symptoms in the first place.
Some patients have tried therapy for years and are wondering if medication might be missing from their care. Others have been on the same regimen for a long time and want a thoughtful second opinion. And then there are those who are completely unsure where to begin. Regardless of the reason, reaching out is always the first step.
Her Therapeutic Approach
Joelle has been trained in several modalities including Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavior therapy, and mindfulness meditation. Knowing what modality you need for therapy is hard, and Joelle can utilize various techniques to help explore emotions, relationships and different parts of your inner experiences at a pace that feels comfortable and safe.

- Psychiatric Experience
- My clinical background encompasses more than a decade of experience caring for individuals with complex psychiatric needs across inpatient and community settings. I have worked with adults experiencing severe and persistent mood disorders in an acute inpatient setting, as well as children and adults with significant trauma histories in community mental health. These experiences have given me a nuanced understanding of complex presentations, enabling me to adopt an individualized approach to treatment that considers the whole person and their unique circumstances.
Care That Starts With the Person
Psychiatric diagnoses can be useful — but they do not define the whole person. Before anything else, Joelle wants to understand you: your experiences, your history, your concerns about treatment, and what you want to change.
“What is actually bothering you, and how can I help?”
